Becca Stamey, Director of Marketing, Refrigeration TechnologiesWhat Does "Safe" Mean in HVACR Chemicals?
At its core, safety in HVACR chemicals covers three key areas:
● User Safety: Our products are non-toxic, non-hazardous, and non-corrosive. HVACR professionals can use them confidently without worrying about chemical burns, harmful fumes, or long-term health risks.
● Equipment Safety: Our formulas work hard on dirt and grime while remaining gentle on aluminum, micro-channel coils, plastics, and other delicate components. Corrosive chemicals can eat away at equipment, leading to costly repairs.
● Environmental Safety: Viper products are biodegradable, NSF-registered, and EPA-compliant. We design them to break down safely, leaving no harmful residues behind.
Protecting the Technician
At Refrigeration Technologies, protecting the technician is built into who we are. Our founder, a former chemist and HVAC technician, and our current president, who has spent 22 years with the company, both bring real-world experience to the table. Together, they lead with a by-techs-for-techs mentality, continuously listening to the field and responding to technician and customer concerns.
The result is products designed for safety and peace of mind. Our Viper coil cleaners are non-corrosive and low odor, eliminating the discomfort and risks that come with harsh chemicals. All our products carry the NSF registration and Kosher certification, making them safe to use around food prep areas. Contractors frequently tell us they feel more confident using Viper products — no skin irritation, no heavy fumes, and no second-guessing.
Listening to the Field
We know that the best ideas and improvements come from those using our products every day. Our product development process is built around direct feedback from technicians in the field.
“Our products are built on trust that comes from listening to technicians and delivering solutions that make their jobs safer, easier, and more effective. Whether it’s a request for more user-friendly packaging, a formulation tweak, or addressing new challenges in evolving HVACR systems, we take these conversations seriously.” — Becca Stamey, Director of Marketing.
This constant dialogue with contractors and wholesalers helps us stay ahead of industry needs while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Safe Product Solutions
Our coil cleaners are a standout example of safety without compromise. Viper coil cleaners are formulated to be non-corrosive, low odor, and tough on grease and grime, yet gentle on sensitive materials like aluminum and micro-channel coils. Whether for indoor or outdoor use, they deliver peace of mind that the job can be done safely and effectively without damaging equipment or putting the technician at risk.
We also focus on ease of use. The Venom Pack design allows for easy dilution and pouring, reducing spills and mess. Our Aerosol Coil Cleaner provides a convenient option for quick cleanups, and the Evaporator Cleaner is ideal thanks to its non-rinsing formula that contains enzymes and remains active for 72 hours with condensate production for continuous cleaning and complete odor elimination.
Big Blu leak detector is another trusted product in our line. Known for its thick, long-lasting bubbles that don’t break easily, Big Blu is used across industries for pinpoint leak detection. It’s non-toxic, NSF registered, and safe to use on most materials without causing harm. Techs rely on its accuracy and durability in the field, knowing they can trust the bubbles to last during inspections and highlight even the smallest leaks.
Nylog sealants are another staple in the technician’s toolkit. Nylog Blue (for HFC and POE systems) and Nylog Red (for mineral oil and alkylbenzene systems) are made from refrigerant-grade lubricants and are completely non-hardening, non-toxic, and safe for use on all elastomers and threads. They remain flexible and won’t contaminate systems, making them a trusted solution for leak prevention. Nylog White, our thread sealant designed for gas lines, is NSF-registered for food service use and provides a reliable seal without harsh chemicals or risk to the technician or environment.
Our brazing and heat protection solutions — WetRag Putty, Heatshield, and Heat Blocking Gel — are designed to protect surrounding components during brazing without releasing harmful substances. WetRag Putty, in particular, is free of carcinogens and silica, safe for repeated use, and highly effective at absorbing heat.
Investing in Education
Safety doesn’t end with product development; it continues with education. We’re passionate about sharing knowledge with the HVACR community through product demonstrations, technical training, and online resources. By showing contractors how to use our products safely and effectively, we help foster a safer, more informed industry. Our team is always available to answer questions, provide guidance, and offer educational support through distributors and industry events.
Protecting the Environment
We’re proud to manufacture all of our products in the United States, allowing us to maintain strict quality control and accessibility. We also believe safety and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. Viper products are biodegradable and EPA-compliant, breaking down safely without harming waterways or wildlife.
Safety You Can Trust
“Our continued growth is only possible because of the loyalty and support of our employees, customers, and the technicians who trust our products in the field. We’re committed to investing in innovation, improving efficiency, and delivering solutions that help HVACR professionals do their jobs safely and effectively. That commitment is what drives us forward every day.” — Mike Pastorello, President of Refrigeration Technologies.
